Sometimes life gives us challenges that require us to make uncomfortable changes. However, if we look at these challenges as a journey and chapters in our book of life, they can be blessings.
NaNook and Nakoda’s Big Paws Rescue
In 2022, the organization’s founder received a diagnosis of a brain tumor that was impairing her eyesight. After a complicated surgery, during which she was resuscitated twice, and in spite of her vision being impaired (she is now functionally blind), she is having an amazing recovery.
With all these medical challenges, she still had the dogs she had rescued prior to this medical issue. They needed rehabilitation, and then they would be ready for adoption. This was difficult to do while having to work on her own rehabilitation, and learning to live with limited sight.
But she did it, and she was able to find homes for several dogs who were ready for adoption. She has downsized to three sanctuary dogs now, along with her own service dog who has to train for the additional tasks of a seeing-eye dog.
Welcome to Morning Star Sanctuary – the new journey begins
The founder is taking a step back from the rescue work (due to a lack of volunteer staff). She has switched over to providing sanctuary for a limited number of animals. She will also be:
- working on disability advocacy
- training rescued service animals on a strictly limited basis after evaluation and assessments
- placing trained service animals in homes with eligible disabled persons and veterans in need
This new adventure will open doors not only for her, but for others as well. She enjoys the blessings of God’s creatures who are by her side and walk with her on her journey. And she will continue to be blessed by those who will follow in their footsteps.
As always, we are grateful for your support. We invite you to follow us on this new journey via our social media:
